Fortune Fish, Newspaper, T-pins
8 x 16 ft
The GOOD installation at the Florida Museum for Women Artists provides the viewer with a moment's reprieve from their worries by providing them with good fortune. The word good is constructed with a grid of hand cut newspaper fish. The fish was chosen for its multi-layered symbolic value. A layer of detachable fortune fish overlay the newspaper fish. When the fortune fish are removed and held in the viewer’s hand they reveal 1 of 7 good fortunes according to their movement (right side up mortgage, excellent credit, dream job, etc.). As exhibition viewers take their fortune, a more unfortunate reality is revealed on the black and white newspaper fish.
